I said YES!

I have been taking my Mindset Monday advice to heart this week and really being open to trying new things... like scary open. I am doing my best to keep the mind in me at bay and just enjoy it, but man I feel a bit of pressure creeping in. Do you know what I mean, your head kind of squeezing in on itself and your brain wanting to burst? I'm so proud of myself for not letting it keep me from saying yes.

Spoiler alert, I survived and I'm a bit further along in my growth journey for it.

Taking my own advice

This week I took my own advice in a big way. My scary new thing was saying yes and being a guest on the Journey Within podcast. Scratch that, the scariest part is telling you and sharing it with the world on Instagram! Recording it with the host Jenn was great :) In the episode I shared a bit of my story, my favorite personal growth book, talked through how to shift your mindset to find pockets of time in the day for yourself, name to tame your anxiety and of course how to grow your glow.

I'd love for you to give it a listen to the Journey Within podcast on Apple podcasts or Spotify or however you love to listen.

(update: I’ve since been on MANY podcasts since initially saying ‘yes’ and it has been actually fun sharing my story and tips for you to try in your own life. Check out the full list here.)

Try it yourself

Have you ever kept track of how many new things you do in a day or week? Maybe you do more new things than you thought. Or maybe it's less. Having an awareness of our belief and taking the time to "fact-check" it once in a while is a good way to build our inner knowing and self-trust. It can also be a good time to reframe our thoughts on what we believe is holding us back. Don't let ourselves be fooled by things the mind in us is telling us.

You say: I do new things all the time!... but do you?
— The mind in you

Try Something New

How often do you try something new? What holds you back from stepping even a tiny bit out of your comfort zone? It doesn't have to be big, wild things. Picking a new dish at a restaurant or pairing a different outfit together is a perfect way to start. Maybe it's starting a new hobby or way of thinking. Maybe it's listening to a new podcast. *hint hint* Each little yes to new things gets you further along in your growth journey. Even if it turns into more of a "growth opportunity" than a raging success, that knowledge you gained from taking action is far worth it.

I can't wait for you to know how great it feels to try something new and realize-

  • It was not as scary as you thought

  • You learned something about yourself

  • Umm… you actually kind of really liked it️

  • You feel proud of yourself for trying a new thing (even if it turns into more of a “growth” experience)

  • You feel inspired to keep trying new things

Careful, that last one is a sign that your glow is showing. So remember that trying something new is as simple (and sometimes scary) as saying yes!
