Harnessing the Power of Story: A Journey Within Yourself
I have been reading up a storm lately, diving into some fun fiction reads, tapping into my inner Rory Gilmore. I may not be actually smelling the books, I’ve definitely enjoyed the different stories I’ve jumped into.
And while it has been something I make time for because I love it, it's also been helping me untangle some other things on my mind lately.
Story Power
I was a recent guest in the Story Power Patreon group. And as part of my conversation with Lucinda Sage-Midgordon, we talked about the power of story and how we can learn about ourselves through the journeys other people go through, even fictional ones...
You can use the power of story in your own life.

Throughout our conversation, we talk about the power of dipping a toe into other people's stories and seeing what wisdom, experience and perspective you can bring into the story.
It's a little fun because you're problem-solving someone else's problem. You get to be the wise observer and bring in your experience.
It's not real life, but it helps you see some of authority that you have, and how like, 'oh, I would totally do that differently.'
And then maybe explore doing something differently in your own life.
Know Yourself
What are you going through? Where does it feel like a clusterf*ck or squiggly hairball? Where do you just have a sense that something is off, but you can't name it?
I say give yourself a break and escape into a good book.

And while you are immersed in that fictional world, let your mind ponder things in the background.
How can you take whatever the character is going through, how would you handle it differently?
If that happened to you, how would you react?
What would the character say about your situation?
What solution are you missing in your own life, that the character struggled over finding and what was their aha moment?
What will yours with like?
To help you dive into your next read (or even movie), listen to the episode and then download my free book related journal prompts to help you get started.
Explore your life, troubles and pain points from the perspective of someone else. See if working through it as a story helps you navigate your way through, and write the ending you truly desire.
I’d love to know, what are you reading lately? Leave a comment or send me a message on LinkedIn.
This book has already drawn me in and I'm sensing will give me my next book hangover. If you are loving the idea of using a favorite novel to go deeper in your own life, check out my book-specific journal prompts and other favorite reads.
